Vol. 231 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment of Children.

64.

asked the Minister for Education whether the regulations contemplated in section 7 (i) of the School Attendance Act, 1926, prohibiting the employment of children under the age of 14 have been promulgated; and, if so, if he will give details of the date of the regulations.

Mr. O'Malley

Regulations under section 7 (i) of the School Attendance Act, 1926, were not made because it was felt, subsequent to the passing of the Act, that the requirement that all children under 14 years of age must attend school regularly was adequately covered under its other provisions.

Furthermore, the employment of juveniles is dealt with in the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936, and the Shops (Conditions of Employment) Acts, 1936 and 1942.
