Vol. 232 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry School Closure.

43.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware that the parents of the children attending Glenmore national school, County Kerry, are very perturbed at the closing of the school; and that they have formed a protest committee; if he will take steps to reopen the school at least until the end of the term by which time eight of the nine pupils will have completed their primary education; and if he will give this matter every priority.

Mr. O'Malley

Every aspect of this matter was thoroughly examined in my Department before the decision to close Glenmore national school was taken. I am quite satisfied that the educational interests of the children concerned can best be served by closing the school and transferring the children to a larger school unit. I do not, therefore, propose to reopen the school.
