Vol. 232 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Issue of Transport Plates.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in considering the issue of transport plates he will bear in mind the position of rural lorry owners who deliver cattle to marts on CIE plates.

I decided in December, 1967 to extend the scope of operation of existing carrier merchandise licences which authorise the carriage of livestock in a restricted area so as to permit of the carriage of livestock anywhere in the State. Under this concession, more than 600 licensees are entitled to have their licences extended for country-wide carriage of livestock and, to-date, some 300 licensees have availed themselves of this concession.

I will keep under review the effects of my recent decision and should it be established that the issue of additional livestock licences is necessary, I will give due consideration to applicants whose vehicles are already "plated" by CIE.
