Proposals made for establishing a factory to produce lactose from whey are being considered by the cheese manufacturers. The proposals envisage that the factory would be Irish-owned and that a British firm would provide certain technical and other services.
An important aspect is whether it would be more advantageous to use the available whey supplies for pig feeding and this particular aspect is being specially considered.
