Vol. 232 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Meath Schools.

22.

asked the Minister for Education the name and location of each primary school in Meath which is considered (a) unfit for use but possible to repair, and (b) unfit and not possible to repair; and what steps he proposes to take to remedy the position.

Mr. O'Malley

As the reply to this question includes a statement in tabular form, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it for inclusion in the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

Schools which have been listed for replacement or for major improvement might be described as sub-standard but not, except in very rare instances, as being unfit for use. Where interim improvements are required to make a building suitable for continued use pending completion of arrangements for its replacement or reconstruction, my Department sanctions a grant towards the cost of such improvements.

The following table gives particulars of cases in County Meath where the question of the replacement or major improvement of a school building has arisen.
