Vol. 232 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Income of Car Ferry Services.

1.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the estimated gross and net income for the 1968 tourist season in respect of each car ferry service operated from the State; and the total of such income.

Gross tourist revenue from motoring visitors arriving at ports in the State in 1968 is estimated by Bord Fáilte at £9¼m.

These estimates are calculated on average expenditure by each motoring visitor and average number of visitors per car as determined by sample surveys. No separate estimates for individual car ferry services have been made by Bord Fáilte.

Statistics of expenditure by Irish motorists travelling abroad are not available but the best estimate that can be made of this traffic in 1968 indicates that it may reach a figure of the order of £500,000.
