Vol. 232 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pigs and Bacon Industry.

17.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether his Department have formulated any special plans for the reorganisation and expansion of the pigs and bacon industry; and, if so, if he will give details.

18.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is taking any steps to establish and to maintain a relationship between the price of compound feeding stuffs and the price of pigs which would ensure an economic return to pig producers.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose taking Questions Nos. 17 and 18 together.

As I indicated in reply to a question on 13th February, I am at present examining various aspects of the pigs position, including prices, and will announce my conclusions in due course.

Could the Minister say when he expects to finish the examination?

I would say it will be some few weeks yet.

This is an extraordinary business.

It is quite an intricate one.

The writing is on the wall in regard to pigs and bacon.

Who has been writing on the walls?

The Minister has.

The Deputy cannot read his own writing.
