Vol. 232 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Coast Protection.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance what is the present position in the case of the coast erosion protection scheme for Moville, County Donegal.

This is one of the proposals, consideration of which had to be deferred because of the financial situation. I cannot yet say when it may proceed.

In view of the absence of Deputy Cunningham, might I ask the Parliamentary Secretary, in order to clarify the position between his Department and Donegal County Council, would he say he is now prepared to admit that Donegal County Council have sent on all the details requested by his Office some 12 months ago in regard to this particular scheme?

The Deputy will probably be aware that a list of priorities must be drawn up in this matter of coast erosion, just as there must be one in relation to arterial drainage. He will also be aware of the fact that provision in the Estimates last year for coast erosion would not permit this to be done. I have already told him that it had to be deferred and that is the position.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary be kind enough to inform me whether, if Deputy Cunningham puts a section 4 before Donegal County Council, this will meet the position?

That is a separate question.

I do not understand the Deputy.

I know that the Parliamentary Secretary does not know what I mean but Deputy Cunningham will understand, and so will the people of Donegal.

I suggest the Deputy have a talk with Deputy Cunningham.
