asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the number of persons registered as unemployed on (a) unemployment benefit, and (b) unemployment assistance in the last week of January for the past five years in respect of each of the following employment exchanges: Clonmel, Tipperary, Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir, Cahir, Lismore, and Thurles.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement :

THE NUMBER of persons registered as unemployed on (a) unemployment benefit and (b) unemployment assistance at the Local Offices of Clonmel, Tipperary, Cashel, Carrick-on-Suir, Cahir, Lismore and Thurles at the dates specified are as follows:—

NOTE: As a result of the abolition of the Employment Period Orders in March and June, 1967, a number of people who did not formerly claim Unemployment Assistance during the winter months are now doing so.
