Vol. 233 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Pier.

6.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether, having regard to the fact that the water is very deep in the area and that the pier if improved will stimulate the fishing industry in the district, special consideration will be given to a proposal to repair and improve the main pier at Direenafoyle, Tahilla, Killarney where thousands of pounds worth of salmon are landed each season by 13 fishermen.

The landing place referred to as Direenafoyle and also known as Derreenamacken was inspected by the special survey team set up in 1966 to examine fish landing facilities on the South Kerry coast. Having regard to the team's report expenditure on improvement works at this landing place would not be warranted in the local fishery interest.
