Vol. 233 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Cork City Housing Programme.

21.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give details of the guide prices submitted to the National Building Agency by those who submitted proposals in outline form to the Agency in respect of its building programme in Cork city.

The answer is "no".

22.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Local Government if some of those who gave outline proposals to the National Building Agency in respect of its building programme in Cork city were not considered owing to the fact that they were not prepared to obtain Irish professional advisers on the scheme; and if this is in accordance with Government policy.

All proposals received were considered in detail.

23.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Local Government why, in view of the intention expressed by him to a deputation representing Cork Corporation on 22nd March, 1967, the National Building Agency scheme in Cork city is being financed from the Local Loans Fund and not from sources outside those normally available to him from State funds for housing purposes.

The primary reason was stated in a letter addressed to the corporation on 5th October last. Regard was also had to the possible effect on tenants' rents and on subsidy payable from the Cork rates if terms less advantageous than those now available from the Local Loans Fund were applied to the project as a long-term commitment by the corporation.

May we assume that this will not interfere with any moneys from the Local Loans Fund that may normally be diverted to Cork for other purposes?
