Vol. 233 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drogheda Traffic Lights.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay in sanctioning tenders for traffic lights for Drogheda Corporation; when these tenders were submitted; and when it is expected that they will be sanctioned.

An application for sanction to the acceptance of a tender for the supply of traffic light signals at two locations in Drogheda was received in my Department from Drogheda Corporation on 13th November last. Discussions between the Department's engineering inspector for the area and officers of the corporation were necessary on a number of technical points in relation to the proposed signals. Approval has now been issued to the acceptance of the tender in so far as the installation at the junction of West Street and Dominick Street is concerned. In the case of the junction of Dublin Road, Marsh Road and James Street some experimentation is considered necessary before it could be accepted that the proposed signals would solve the difficult turning problems at this junction. The corporation have been requested to undertake this experiment.
