Vol. 234 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Estates.

29.

asked the Minister for Lands why the Land Commission did not acquire the Pierce estate, Cordangan, County Tipperary; and if he is aware that there is a large number of smallholders in the vicinity of this estate.

30.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands the present position regarding the Pierce estate at Cordangan, County Tipperary.

With your permission a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together. Following a detailed inspection of this 99 acre property on the ground a few months ago the Land Commission decided not to move for its acquisition, the estate being considered unsuitable, under the headings of quality and character, for the purposes of the land reform programme. I understand that congestion in the locality is not acute.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the Goor estate, Portroe, Nenagh, County Tipperary is advertised for conacre; and what steps he is now prepared to take to ensure that it is divided among smallholders in the district in the near future.

Proceedings for compulsory acquisition of this 188 acre property are in progress but have not yet concluded; as indicated in reply to the Deputy's last question on 28th November, 1967, an objection lodged on behalf of the owner has not yet been determined. Pending completion of the proceedings the owner is at liberty to make his own arrangements for the management of the lands.
