Vol. 234 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Information Bureaux.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will take such steps as are necessary to provide for the setting up by housing authorities, in particular Dublin Corporation, of effective information bureaux which will report frequently on radio and television on the availability and up-to-date position of housing in each area.

It is a matter primarily for each local authority to decide in the light of local conditions the steps they will take for the dissemination of information on housing and other local services in their area. In fact, in many areas, meetings of local authorities are extensively covered in the local press, and applicants for housing or for housing loans or grants can ascertain their position by inquiry at the council offices. Information on housing generally is also contained in quarterly and other publications issued by my Department.

In so far as Dublin Corporation are concerned, I have sanctioned proposals submitted to me for the appointment of a public relations officer.

Would the Minister state if this public relations officer will give this information on radio or television?

He might not be let.

He will be muzzled.

If he is a member of Taca——

I am not responsible for radio or television. Neither am I responsible for Dublin Corporation——

——nor for yourself.

The Minister was very annoyed about the Dublin Corporation figures.

The facts were not allowed to be given.
