Vol. 234 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hit-and-Run Accidents.

46.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of fatal hit-and-run accidents since 1965; the number of cases where the culprits were brought to justice; and the sentence imposed in each case.

The number of fatal hit-and-run accidents from 1st January, 1966 to 31st December, 1967 was 20. Proceedings were instituted in 15 cases.

The information sought concerning penalties could be got only by a scrutiny of individual files in local Garda stations and, even then, would be of no value and in fact highly misleading unless related to the wide differences in the facts of the various cases.
