Vol. 235 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing of Farm Animals.

23.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of premises in the Dublin city area in which farm animals are housed other than for the purposes of immediate slaughter or transportation; and if he considers that the present regulations are adequate for the prevention of nuisance by such premises.

I am informed by Dublin Corporation that there are in the city 163 piggeries, 26 dairy yards and 30 premises in which horses are stabled; that the provisions of the Milk and Dairies Acts, 1935 and 1956 are adequate to ensure the prevention of nuisances by dairy yards and that the corporation's bye-laws for the keeping of other animals in conjunction with the sanitary services code are also adequate in the prevention of nuisances save in the case of swine.

The corporation's revised draft bye-laws for the keeping of swine are now at the final stage of preparation.
