Vol. 235 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pensioners Resident in Six Counties.

42.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider the introduction of amending legislation to enable those entitled to widows and old age pensions to apply for and draw their pensions while residing in the Six Counties.

A person residing in Northern Ireland may apply for and, if entitled, receive payment of contributory old age or widow's pension. A person receiving non-contributory old age pension who takes up residence in Northern Ireland may continue to receive his pension there for a period of up to five years from the date of change of residence. Non-contributory widows pension is not payable to a person living anywhere outside the State.

Legislation to change this position is not contemplated.
