Vol. 235 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Federation of Dublin Hospitals.

51.

asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding the proposed federation of certain Dublin hospitals.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the hospital group, the Federated Dublin Voluntary Hospitals, set up under the Hospitals Federation and Amalgamation Act, 1961 which has been functioning since November, 1961. The amalgamation of hospital boards contemplated in the Act as a further step in the process of unification has not so far been implemented. I would expect that this development would be pressed forward when it is possible to reorganise the services provided by the participating hospitals. As Deputies will be aware the whole question of the future organisation of the general hospital service is at present being reviewed by a Consultative Council. Their report, which I expect to receive very soon, will I hope be of great assistance in determining how best to proceed with the necessary reorganisation of the hospital services.
