Vol. 235 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Forestry Lands.

82.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that there is concern among the forestry workers in the Killarney, Kenmare and Kilgarvan-Clonkeen areas of County Kerry regarding the very low plantable reserve; and whether he will confirm that positive steps are being taken to acquire urgently land which is offered in order to maintain employment and to increase the rate of planting in these areas.

The Forestry Division of my Department is making positive efforts to acquire additional land in the Killarney, Kenmare and Kilgarvan-Clonkeen areas of county Kerry. The fact is, however, that much of the land which is being offered is not suitable for afforestation purposes, mainly due to exposure.
