With a view to encouraging the efficient use of fuel in industry, grants of 50 per cent of the cost of fuel efficiency surveys are made available to industrial firms and hotels by my Department. The amount paid in respect of these grants during the year ended 31st March, 1968 was £1,165.
I understand that grants at a similar rate are payable for fuel efficiency surveys in Northern Ireland.

Technical assistance grants are paid by my Department for attendance at training courses, study visits abroad and the engagement of consultants, in order to promote efficiency in the building industry. As the scheme was introduced in May last, no grants were paid in 1967-68.
I am not aware of any exactly analogous scheme in Northern Ireland.
