Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Libraries.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a new library will be provided at Mount Merrion, Dublin.

31.

asked the Minister for Local Government when a new library will be provided at Stillorgan, Dublin.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government when extra library facilities will be provided at Cabinteely Library, County Dublin, as the present library accommodation is not sufficient for the needs of the users there.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 30, 31 and 32 together. The provision of library facilities is a matter for the local authorities in the first instance. No proposals relating to the library service at Stillorgan, Mount Merrion or Cabinteely have been submitted to my Department. I understand, however, that the Dublin County Council intend to carry out a complete re-organisation including re-stocking of the existing branch library at Cabinteely and that the question of building a branch library to serve the Mount Merrion and Stillorgan area is the subject of a correspondence between the county council and An Chomhairle Leabharlanna.

Irrespective of providing a new building, is it open to a library committee to purchase a building for use as a library?

Yes. The suggestion would be considered.
