Vol. 237 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Rush (Dublin) Houses.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reasons for the long delay of Dublin County Council in building much-needed houses at Kenure Park, Rush; what plans exist for the full use of the 33 acre site there; and how soon work on the houses will start.

I understand from Dublin County Council that the 30 acre site at Kenure Park has been cleared by them of scrub; that they hope to invite tenders shortly for the development of the site for 54 council houses and 82 private sites, as approved by me on the 11th July last; and that the layout will include space for a community centre, as suggested by me.

My Department is awaiting the submission by the council of revised proposals for the layout of the 60 acre balance of the site. While I am not in a position to say, at this stage, when work will be started on the building of houses at Kenure Park, I would hope that development work on the 30 acre site will be commenced at an early date.

Would the Minister say if it is proposed to finance the creation of a community centre by the Department or by the county council or by a combination of both or in what manner?

It is proposed to provide in the layout for a site for a community centre.

And no more than that?

There is no specific proposal before my Department in relation to the construction of a centre.

You are not concerned that it could become a derelict site?

No, the needs of the people of Rush are well looked after and will continue to be well looked after.

Hear, hear.

I notice you did not invite any opposition in from County Meath anyhow.

Well looked after by Deputy Burke and myself but the Minister has been notably lacking in his duty to the people of Rush.

On the contrary. This has been very much expedited but I do not want to deny Deputy Burke or Deputy Foley any of the credit in view of the continuous pressure they have been exerting.
