Vol. 237 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Pedestrian Crossings.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the widespread demand among local residents for the provision of a pedestrian crossing convenient to the shops at the Griffith Avenue end of Philipsburg Avenue, Dublin; whether he has had proposals in the matter; and how soon the crossing will be constructed.

The provision of pedestrian crossings is a matter for the local authority acting at the request or with the consent of the Garda Commissioner. I have had no proposals in the matter.

Is the Minister aware that there have been several minor accidents in this area and must they wait for a fatal accident before there is a move made? Could the Minister inform me as to whom should the local residents submit a petition which has now been signed by over 200 residents in the area?

To the Dublin Corporation and the Garda Commissioner.

Yes. I understand that both Dublin Corporation and the Garda are having the matter examined.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the danger to pedestrians crossing the Booterstown-Blackrock Road, Dublin; and if he will consider siting an underpass for pedestrians at Williamstown.

The provision of an underpass for pedestrians is a matter for the local authority. I have had no proposals in the matter.
