Vol. 237 No. 7

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation to Wheat Growers.

42.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries how he intends to compensate the farmers for the loss of income that will arise next year out of his decision to reduce from 260,000 tons to 240,000 tons the amount of wheat for which full price will be paid.

Growers are aware that national wheat policy for many years has been to provide 75 per cent of our total requirements for bread. This represents 240,000 tons at the present rate of bread consumption. No question of compensation to growers can, therefore, arise.
