Vol. 237 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Harbour Dues.

35.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what arrangements there are for the reduction of harbour dues in the principal harbours of the country, where goods are landed but are for re-export with or without processing.

At the principal harbours tonnage rates are charged on each entry of a cargo vessel and import rates are charged on all goods imported. If imported goods are processed and then exported, the normal export rates applicable to the processed goods are charged. If imported goods are landed temporarily and subsequently reexported without processing no export rates are payable.

Subject to the relevant provisions of the Harbours Act, 1946, it is open to a harbour authority to remit rates in whole or in part, with my consent.
