Vol. 237 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing Expenditure.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government the expenditure by Dublin Corporation on local authority housing in the last three financial years; and the anticipated expenditure for the current financial year.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

According to the latest estimate submitted to me by the Corporation, they expect in 1968/69 to have capital expenditure of approximately £6,700,000 on local authority housing and land acquisition, excluding the Ballymun scheme for which a provisional capital allocation of £2,500,000 has been made in the current financial year. In compiling their Estimates for 1968/69, the Corporation provided for net current expenditure on local authority housing of about £1,680,000.

Note: Capital expenditure is incurred in providing or substantially reconstructing houses and in acquiring land. It is financed largely by borrowing.

Current expenditure is incurred in paying loan charges and in maintenance and administrative costs. The figures for current expenditure are for the net expenditure borne on the rates after taking account of receipts from State subsidy, rents and annuities and miscellaneous sources.

The Corporation's receipts from State subsidy amounted, approximately, to £989,000 in 1965-66.

£1,126,000 in 1966-67 and £1,200,000 in 1967-68 and are expected to amount to about £1,700,000 in 1968-69.
