Vol. 237 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Schemes.

81.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he can say if all arrangements are complete for starting work on the Cromane group water scheme, County Kerry; and, if so, when work is likely to start.

Final arrangements for this scheme are not yet completed and it is not possible to say at this stage when work will commence. The group are seeking quotations for the work and materials involved.

82.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction the proposals by Kildare County Council to employ a consultant for the water schemes at (a) Skirteen, Monasterevan, (b) Mullacash-Brannockstown, (c) Hartwell Kill, (d) Loughouse, Ballymore Eustace, (e) Mullantine and Tullylost-Rathangan, all of which were requested on 4th December, 1967, and (f) Scrawtown Prosperous requested on 5th February, 1968.

As I indicated in reply to a recent question by the Deputy, it seems to me that the possibility of having the work carried out by group schemes should first be investigated and I have asked the local authority to do this.

When did you write to the local authority?

On the 4th December.

At least it made you answer. It took nine months to make you answer, that is, from the 4th February to the 4th December.

That is not nine months.

It is actually ten months.

83.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to sanction the Coill Dubh water extension scheme submitted by Kildare County Council on 16th August, 1968.

This scheme has been the subject of discussion at technical level between officers of my Department and the local authority, as a result of which the capacity of the source is being investigated. The matter will be further considered when a report on this aspect is available.

84.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received any proposal from Kerry County Council to provide a public water supply for the Blackwater and Tahilla areas near Sneem, County Kerry, from a lake in the townland of Derrygurrane in the electoral district of Loughbrin; if so, if he will state the present position regarding this proposal; and, if not, whether he will ask Kerry County Council to investigate the matter.

There are no proposals before my Department for water supply schemes to serve Blackwater and Tahilla areas and I am informed by Kerry County Council that they have no proposals in mind for water supply schemes to serve these areas at the present time.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
