The Commissioner of the Garda Síochána has satisfied me as to the adequacy of the Garda personnel at present engaged on juvenile liaison duties and, accordingly, I do not intend to increase the staff. No separate funds are ear-marked for this service.
The position as regards the probation service is that, as indicated in replies to previous questions, I have arranged for a detailed investigation of the existing probation and after-care service with a view to any necessary improvement. Pending completion of this investigation, I am not in a position to make a statement.
