Vol. 238 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Equitable Insurance Company.

59.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state in relation to Questions Nos. 185 and 186 on 4th February, 1969, the total amount of debates so far proved in the liquidation of the Equitable Insurance Company Limited; and whether he has made any inquiry as to the information made available to and requested by the directors before they certified the value of the assets.

I have no information in regard to these matters, which are outside my functions, since the company is being wound up by the court.

The Minister could inquire.

I understand I am not entitled to but if the Deputy is concerned about these matters, and I take it that he is, he will be aware of the fact that it is, of course, open to the court to take action in regard to any apparently criminal matters that might come to light in the course of the winding up.

If it is brought to the attention of the court.

Or even if the court itself takes cognisance of it.

I do not see how the court could unless it is brought to the attention of the court.

Any party who is interested in the proceedings is entitled to bring it to the court or the court may do it itself.

They will be interested when they receive a call for 10/- on their shares, will they not? I understand that is being decided on.
