Vol. 238 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Acquisitions.

25.

asked the Minister for Lands the number of holdings and the acreage in each case acquired by the Land Commission between January and December, 1968.

Land Commission records are compiled by reference to financial rather than calendar years. During the period from the commencement of the current financial year—1st April, 1968 to 31st December, 1968—the latest date for which figures are available—the total intake of land for the county as a whole was approximately 22,000 acres, comprising some 400 properties.

As regards the acreage of each property, the Deputy will appreciate that the extraction of this information would entail a disproportionate expenditure of time and labour which would not be warranted. Moreover, the position regarding lands taken over by the Land Commission is constantly changing—particularly in the period January to March—according as new properties are taken over and acquired estates allotted and the information sought, if compiled as of now, would be very quickly out of date.

If the Deputy is concerned about any particular estate or group of estates and communicates with the Land Commission, the relevant details will be supplied to him.
