Vol. 238 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Co-ordination of Dublin Galleries.

62.

asked the Minister for Education if there are any proposals on hand to co-ordinate or to unify the National Gallery and the Dublin Municipal Gallery of Modern Art.

As I mentioned on the occasion of the opening of the extension to the National Gallery, I felt that there was much scope for co-operation and collaboration between the two Galleries which would be of considerable benefit to both. I have since followed up the suggestion I made on that occasion and I am happy to be able to announce that arrangements are now in train whereby a joint ad hoc committee containing representatives of the National Gallery and of the Cultural Committee of Dublin Corporation might be set up. The Board of Governors and Guardians of the National Gallery have already nominated three of their members to serve on the joint committee. The question of nominating three representatives of the Cultural Committee of Dublin Corporation will be considered at the next meeting of that Committee.
