Vol. 239 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water Supply Schemes.

21.

asked the Minister for Local Government when the approval for the head works for the Inch-Castlemaine group water scheme is likely to issue to the Kerry County Council.

As the county council do not regard the Inch-Castlemaine water supply scheme as having a high priority on their public water supply programme, I cannot as yet indicate when a decision will issue on their proposals.

22.

asked the Minister for Local Government the reason for the delay by the Kerry County Council in carrying out the relaying of the pipeline from Oulagh to Caragh Lake and the consequent hold-up in the Cromane group water scheme.

I have fully approved the proposals for relaying of the Caragh Lake pipeline. It is a matter for the local authority to arrange for the execution of the work.

23.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the progress of regional water schemes in County Cavan.

Proposals in regard to two such schemes are before my Department — the Cavan and the Killeshandra schemes.

A preliminary report for the Killeshandra scheme was submitted by the local authority on the 1st January, 1969, and it is under examination.

Revised proposals for a first stage of the Cavan Regional Scheme were received in my Department on the 3rd instant. Certain technical aspects of these proposals are to be the subject of a discussion between technical advisers of the Department and the local authority.

24.

(Cavan) asked the Minister for Local Government when regional water schemes first came into operation; and the number of such schemes which have been completed in each county to date.

The information sought is being compiled and will be forwarded to the Deputy.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many regional water schemes from County Leitrim are at present awaiting sanction in his Department; and when he expects to sanction these schemes.

One such proposal is before my Department. This has recently been discussed by technical officers of my Department and the local authority and a communication about their proposals will issue to the county council shortly.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government how many regional water schemes from County Roscommon are at present awaiting sanction in his Department; and when he expects to sanction these schemes.

Six such proposals are before my Department. Having regard to the necessity to conserve available capital for housing and other essential services only those sanitary services works of the highest priority can be allowed to proceed at the present time. On this basis I cannot indicate when decisions on these proposals will issue.
