Vol. 240 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Vocational School.

39.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the provision of a vocational school in Ashtown, County Dublin.

Application for the provision of a vocational school comes in the first instance from the local vocational education committee. Should such an application be received by my Department in the case of Ashtown I will have it considered.

May I inform the Minister that the school in Blanchardstown is completely full and that the school in Cabra is also full? There is no provision in the Ashtown area for secondary or vocational teaching. The school there is full also. I think it is a matter of urgency that we should ask the Minister to get in touch with the vocational educational committee and ask them to consider sending in an application to the Minister?

I will certainly get in touch with the vocational educational committee but it is for them to make an assessment of the requirement. My information is that there is accommodation in the Cabra vocational school and that is on the main route from Ashtown. It is only two miles away.

(Interruptions.)

Deputy Foley is showing himself to be fully aware of the problems in his area.

I fully appreciate that but he is not in contact with the councillors who are members of the committee.
