I already stated in reply to a question on 21st May, 1969, that improvement works at Killala harbour would be put in hands this year. An offer of a State grant of £20,100 or 75 per cent of the total estimated cost of the works, whichever is the lesser, was made by my Department to Mayo County Council on 26th May, 1969, on the usual conditions that the council would provide the balance of the cost involved and accept full responsibility for the maintenance of the works when completed. I am awaiting the council's acceptance of that offer. The works will be commenced within two weeks of receipt of the council's acceptance.
