Vol. 241 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Water Scheme.

19.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the group water scheme at Glenascaul, Oranmore, County Galway, has not yet come into operation.

I understand that the dispute between the group and the manufacturers of the pipes has been resolved and that work on the relaying of the pipeline can be expected to commence shortly.

I did not hear the Minister's reply because of the Minister's interruptions.

The Deputies opposite were making noise.

Why did you not clean your ears, Deputy?

I understand that the dispute between the group and the manufacturers of the pipes has been resolved and that work on the relaying of the pipeline can be expected to commence shortly.

Can the Minister explain why, if this pipe system did not work, he paid out Government grants?

Only a proportion of the grants were paid.

Can the Minister indicate who the supplier of the pipes was?

That is a separate question.

It is very important. I will let the Minister know. The supplier was a leading member of Taca and that is why the Minister took no action.
