Additional Estimate, 1969-70. - Vote 50: Increases in Pensions and Ex-Gratia Pensions for Widows and Children.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £738,000 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1970, for payment of Increases in certain Pensions, Allowances and Retired Pay in respect of public service and for payment of ex-gratia pensions to the widows and children of certain public servants.

This additional Estimate was only introduced today. It is to provide the money to meet the increases in pensions announced in the Budget. The total amount is £738,000. It covers civil servants, teachers, gardaí—all the Public Service, in fact.

Vote put and agreed to.
Main Estimates Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19, together with Supplementary Estimate No. 16 and Additional Estimate No. 50, reported and agreed to.

Deputy Cruise-O'Brien gave notice that he would raise the subject matter of a question on the Adjournment. I understand that the Deputy allows it to stand over for the moment.

That is correct, the Minister for External Affairs not being available to reply this evening.
