Since its establishment in March of last year, the manpower forecasting unit has been studying the methodology and techniques in use in other countries, and has been considering their application in the light of the data and information available here. The unit will shortly undertake an analysis on occupational trends in industries likely to be affected by technological changes and rationalisation. The unit is also preparing a detailed system of occupational classifications and is involved in the manpower aspects of a consultancy project being undertaken for the Department of Education in connection with the regional technological colleges.
Since the work of the unit is, at this stage, largely experimental the question of preparing and publishing reports has not so far arisen.
