Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of ESB Current.

222.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the inordinate delays with which the ESB provide current even in the most urgent cases; and, if so, if he will have this state of affairs remedied.

I am not aware that there are inordinate delays in making electricity supply available to applicants. Rural connections are made systematically under the planned postdevelopment programme and every effort is made to meet urgent requests for supply where a genuine priority requirement exists.

In the year ended 31st March, 1969, the total number of additional ESB consumers was almost 20,000 compared with an average of slightly less than 16,000 in the preceding three years. Of the new connections in 1968-69, nearly 9,000 were made in rural areas—more than 1,000 above the average for the preceding three years.

223.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to provide electricity for a person (name supplied) and the two other old age pensioners who reside with him at Carrickmagarry, Derrigbeg, County Donegal.

I understand from the ESB that terms for supply will shortly be quoted in the case in question. If the terms are accepted, the board would hope to make supply available within four to six weeks.
