Mineral exploration is at present being carried out under 661 prospecting licences, 62 of which are in respect of areas in County Mayo.
Information given to me about the results of prospecting under these licences cannot be revealed without the consent of the prospectors.
May I take it that the Minister would give every possible encouragement to people conducting exploration work in County Mayo particularly with a view to maintaining more people in employment at home?
The encouragement given to developing mining in this country is substantial and has been very successful. There are at present 62 licences valid in respect of County Mayo. The ultimate effect of all this depends on what is found.
