The change-over to the metric system is not due to take place in 1975 or indeed at any fixed time. It will be a gradual process, which it is hoped will have been generally completed by 1975. Substantial progress towards metrication has been made by a number of industries with which my Department has been in contact. When the stage approaches at which the distributive sector and the public generally will be involved, I feel that the assistance of a steering committee would be useful and I will consider how one should be established. Meanwhile inquiries should continue to be addressed to my Department.
