Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - West Cork Afforestation.

284.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that there are approximately 1,000 acres of land on offer to the Forestry Division of his Department in the Beara peninsula of West Cork; and whether he is prepared to arrange for this land to be acquired for planting as soon as possible in order to ensure that the present labour force employed by the Forestry Division in the Castletownbere district will be maintained and increased.

In the Beara peninsula, as elsewhere in the country, the Forestry Division of my Department is seeking to acquire as much land as possible for afforestation. In the Beara area a total of 2,468 acres are on offer to my Department and these offers will be dealt with as expeditiously as possible.
