The free transport scheme to primary and post-primary schools commenced on 1st April, 1967. From that date up to the 31st July, the end of the 1968-69 school year, school transport has cost £3,944,900. Of this amount £2,307,907 was for services provided by CIE and £1,636,993 for services provided by private transport concerns.
