Vol. 241 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Film Censorship.

148.

asked the Minister for Justice if the film censorship board have approved in full the film, I can't, I can't; and, if so, the date on which it was approved for public showing.

The film trade have always taken the view, which their association has again confirmed recently, that it would be a breach of confidence for the film censor or the appeal board to disclose to the public whether or not a particular film that has not been shown publicly has been submitted for censorship or to disclose information about any cuts made in a film that has been shown publicly. The owners of the film are, of course, free to release such information if they wish to do so.

If, however, the Deputy's question relates to the showing of this particular film at the Cork Film Festival, the position is that the showing of films at that festival is not regarded as coming within the ambit of the Censorship of Films Acts as the audience is made up of members of a club formed in connection with the festival and the shows are not open to the general public.
