asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the results of his inquiries into the death of thousands of fish in the River Barrow in recent weeks; and what action he has taken in the matter.

A survey of the River Barrow was recently carried out by a scientific officer of my Department which confirmed the fish mortality referred to. This survey is to be followed by a detailed investigation of the water quality of the river and of the various contaminants which enter it; such investigation is a question for the Waterford Board of Fishery Conservators who have been duly advised in the matter.
