Vol. 241 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Housing.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of flats which have been handed over to Dublin Corporation in 1969 to date; and the number to be handed over by 31st December, 1969.

30.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of houses which have been handed over to Dublin Corporation in 1969 to date; and the number to be handed over by 31st December, 1969.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 29 and 30 together.

Information about the rate of handover of corporation dwellings is not available in my Department. A total of 870 flats and 570 houses was completed by Dublin Corporation between 1st January and 30th September, 1969.

Would the Minister state why he is not able to obtain this information especially as he indicated a short while ago that housing is the first priority and that he is concerned about the housing situation in Dublin city? Surely he should endeavour to keep himself acquainted with the up-to-date position in regard to the housing crisis?

I am acquainted with the up-to-date position in regard to the housing problem. I have not the information in the Department in the form the Deputy requires it. I did not say I was unable to obtain it. I said I have not got it. I know the number of houses that are completed by Dublin Corporation. That is sufficient for the purposes of the Department.

Would the Minister not think it might be a good idea that we should be informed of the number of houses that will become available by 31st December? The information should be available.

When they are completed, that will be available.

In view of the unsatisfactory nature of the Minister's reply, I wish to give notice that I purpose to raise the subject matter of this question on the Adjournment tonight.
