Vol. 242 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing of Former Army Personnel.

93.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he will consider renewing his appeal to the Dublin Corporation with a view to their expediting the housing of former Army personnel in Arbour Hill, McKee Barracks and elsewhere, who are overholding.

Soldiers in occupation of married quarters in Dublin military barracks who are about to be released from the Permanent Defence Force are advised by the military authorities to apply to Dublin Corporation for re-housing. Following the making of each such application my Department requests the corporation to give favourable consideration to each individual case.

I have arranged that a fresh approach will be made to the corporation with a view to the re-housing of all existing overholders of married quarters in Dublin military barracks.

Dublin Corporation have been most co-operative in this matter in the past. I should like to express my appreciation of the manner in which they have allocated houses to ex-soldiers and their families who were formerly overholding married quarters in the Dublin area.
