Vol. 242 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Offaly Houses.

32.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position regarding the proposals at present before his Department from Offaly County Council for the provision of the 24 homes at Mucklagh, Tullamore; when sanction will be given and the necessary finance made available; and when work is likely to commence.

Proposals by Offaly County Council to accept a tender and raise a loan for this scheme are at present under consideration in my Department and a decision on them will be given as soon as possible. I am not in a position to say when work is likely to be commenced.

I could not hear the first part of the answer.

That was Deputy Harte's fault. The Deputy could raise it on the Adjournment with Deputy Harte.

Is the Minister aware of the gravity of the present housing situation in Tullamore and the surrounding districts?

Is the Minister aware of the fact that there are families in Tullamore and the surrounding districts who have been five to eight and nine years awaiting housing?

When does the Minister hope to have a remedy for this situation?

I have already replied to that.

There is no remedy.

Question No. 33.
