Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Houses.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government what is the present position in relation to the provision of alternative housing for the residents of the cottages at Collinstown Lane, Dublin.

I understand that Dublin County Council will submit shortly, for my approval, layout plans and estimate of cost for the necessary replacement cottages on a site at Santry Avenue.

I received that same reply from the Minister some time ago and the county council have not yet submitted plans to the Department of Local Government. These people were told six years ago, when the late Deputy Dunne was here——

Has the Deputy a question?

Yes. I have asked the Minister a question. Does the Minister know that two years ago these people were refused water, even though it is within 150 yards of their front doors, and will he see to it that these people are rehoused immediately and not left there forever and a day?

I certainly agree with the Deputy that there has been no evidence of excessive speed on the part of the housing authority in this regard.

The Minister will not pay the necessary personnel.

I agree with the Deputy that has been the position but it appears now that the county council propose to do something at long last.

Is there not a Fianna Fáil chairman in Dublin County Council? Is the Minister forgetting that?

There is a Coalition majority on the council.

Is the Minister planning to dissolve Dublin County Council?

A great many people would be very happy if that happened.

Do not forget Deputy Burke.
