Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Louth Television Reception.

137.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that television reception from Telefís Éireann is impossible at Carlingford and Omeath, County Louth; and that a booster station on Slieve Foy or other suitable mountain in the area would solve the difficulty; and if he will take immediate action on the matter.

The improvement of reception of Radio Telefís Éireann programmes is primarily a matter for the authority. I understand that television reception in the places referred to by the Deputy is not satisfactory at present, but that in normal course no improvement of it would be undertaken until other more populous areas have been attended to. I have directed, however, that a detailed survey of the question be made as a matter of urgency and I will give special consideration to the matter when the results of this survey are available.
