Vol. 242 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Bay Amenities.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received representations from the Dublin Bay Preservation Association concerning the preservation of amenities in Dublin bay and Dún Laoghaire; and what action he proposes to take on the matter.

I have recently received representations from the Dublin Bay Preservation Association asking that the planning authorities should make special amenity area orders covering the whole of Dublin Bay. I have informed the association that the initiative for making such orders must come from the planning authorities themselves. I have appellate functions in regard to the provisions of special amenity area orders and consequently it would not be proper for me to direct the authorities concerned as to what action they should take in the matter.

Will the Minister take cognisance of the representations made by his colleague, the Minister for Industry and Commerce, in this matter?

If the matter comes before me.

It has come before the Minister. The Minister for Industry and Commerce made a very frank statement about it during the general election and he was backed to the hilt by the Minister for Transport and Power. I hope the Minister for Local Government will join in this backing to the hilt.

I shall consider the matter if it comes before me by way of appeal.

I am interested in the political future of the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

The remaining questions will appear on tomorrow's Order Paper.
